Topaz is ugly. There's just no way around it. Topaz under 1.3 was
bad enough. But under 2.04, if you can believe it, Topaz actually got
*uglier*.
Recently, I got fed up with this and decided to solve the problem
once and for all. Hence, the program you have now: Nopaz.
Nopaz replaces the ROM versions of Topaz.font with the imagery of
the font of your choice. Nopaz opens your font, makes sure your font and
Topaz are of compatible types, and if they are, replaces the Topaz imagery
with that of the font you selected. All subsequent text rendering using
Topaz will use the new imagery.
If you are a 1.3 user, you must be sure to turn off FastFonts before
running Nopaz, as there appears to be a bad interaction I don't understand.
Just issue the following commands:
FF -q ; Quit FastFonts
Nopaz FavoriteFont
FF -0 ; Restart FastFonts
...Or you can install Nopaz in your Startup-Sequence before
FastFonts is started.
If you wish to undo the changes made by Nopaz and restore the
original Topaz imagery, issue the command (with FastFonts off):
Nopaz -q
Included in this archive is my current favorite 8- and 9-point
fixedwidth font, DarkParticle. (It's called DarkParticle because I lifted
it from Allen Hasting's LightWave v1.0.)
This trinket has already saved my eyes much pain. I hope you like
it.
